Comoptions:description:bought this car about 18 months ago, and have worked to make it nice, but nottoo nice. Car shows 48000 miles, but who knows if that is correct. The body is straightexcept for one small dent in the driver's door. Paint andstripes are new. Interior has been redone with carpet, door panels and seatcovers from newton commercial in england, which is generally regarded as thepremier interior supplier for these cars. Upper dash pad has no cracks, andappears as new. Dashboard has been replaced with a darker wood than original,and looks decent, but finish could look a bit better. The florida sun has notbeen kind to it. A pioneer cd/tuner also lives in the dash, with speakers intheir own enclosure behind the seats so nothing was cut up on the caritself. Engine starts up and purrs. The weak link in these engines, the thrustwashers on the rear main bearing, needed attention when i bought the car. Thanksto the great guys at custom thrust washers. Com, new tough alloy washers weremade and installed. Also, the rear main bearing cap was machined to hold anupper and lower washer to create a full 360 degree bearing surface, instead ofthe 180 good old british leyland engineered. The car doesn't overheat,stall or anything else. The clutch, pressure plate and throw outbearing were also replaced about 500 miles ago. Everything shifts as new. The car stops straight. I have left the mainly because it.

Although this was not a full frame off restoration. The previous owner has passed, his survivng sister said he had extensive motorwork done recently but i cannot as of yet locate the documentation for that. Thecar sounds great, sporty growl to the engine. It runs and shifts very good. Igot this car because i immediately loved it when i saw it. Unfortunately idon't have the space to keep it indoors in the inclimate weather the way itwas kept.

Brake master cylinder, rubber hoses and most brake lines, all clutchhydraulics, clutch, front shocks, ball joints, tie rod ends, some bushings, gastank lined, new fuel and vent lines, engine hoses, weatherstripping etc... Tiresare like new, new trim rings. Frame was soft and repaired with both "outriggers"and top t-shirt plate replaced. Frame cleaned and coated with por 15. Driverside floor and both rocker panels were replaced. Any other small rusted areaswere cut out and metal welded in. Interior is very nice as well with excellentcarpets, seat covers and interior panels are very good. Dash is original butwith very minor checking of finish. Dash pads are nice with one crack on top padin typical spot by ashtray. Top is good with clear plastic, but with a minor(now patched) rip on each side caused by improperly lowering of top. Paint isdriver quality base/clear coat on exterior, single stage on everything else -engine compartment, trunk, floors etc...

This rust free example has spent its entire life in sunnycalifornia, proven by its original 1968 black license plate. The car had acosmetic restoration about 4 years ago by a local british car specialist shop atan expense of over ten thousand dollars which included fresh paint, chrome,seals and interior. The owner passed away shortly after buying the car and hiswidow had the shop finish the car to how her husband had wanted it. Thisspitfire has had very little miles put on it since it was finished, nothing morethan taking it to local shows and now the widow is ready to let someone newenjoy it. The body is straight and rust free with good door and bonnet fitment,the paint on the hard top has three scratches measuring around 4 inches inlength. The bright work is very nice and shiny with no pitting and was eitherreplaced or re-chromed. The glass is very good with no cracks or bulls eyes andthe lenses are new appearing, the window seals are new. The interior has new seatupholstery and foam, new panels including the doors, new carpet, new dash topand new walnut dashboard. The gauges all work but the rev counter is erratic. Theoil pressure and ignition warning lights function correctly going out as soon asthe engine fires up and all the lights and signals work. The clutch is light and the transmission shifts well. U carbs have been overhauled as well as the brake and clutch mastercylinder. I am selling this spitfire for t.

This car was restored by a gentleman in tennessee in 2009, hepassed away before he was able to drive it. The car was stored in a garage until2012. I purchased the car in june of 2012. I replaced the following items on thecar: new set of tires. New brake master cylinder and lines. New clutch mastercylinder and slave cylinder. New rear wheel cylinders. New front suspension tierod, ball joints etc. New radiator and hoses. New plugs andplug wires rotor and cap. All rubber gas hoses are new. Replaced oil andfilter. New seat covers, new door and rear panels. New fuel pump and filter. Thegas tank was coated in 2009. After i purchased the car in 2012 most everythingthat was rubber or cloth had dried up or rotted. After repairing or replacingall damaged areas, the car was as close to brand new as it could be. I enteredthe car in the "world of wheels" two years in a row and it received 1st bothyears. I also entered it in the "british european show" in townsend and itreceived 1st in the gt-6 spitfire class. I have owned british cars since 1975including six (6) spitfires. This car is by far the finest i have ever owned.
